One of my favorite kitchen tools is The Butter Bell. Where has the butter bell been all my life? I often wonder how I ever lived without it. My sweet husband gave me this great little tool for Christmas two years ago.
We always use real butter… why we don’t use artery clogging preservative filled margarine or artificial ‘spreads’ is a topic for another post. Also, we buy our butter in bulk from the health food store. This butter comes in a two pound ‘blob’ which makes it difficult to use in its hard, cold, refrigerated form. Of course, any of you users of real butter understand that cold butter is nothing short of an uncuttable brick! It must be room temperature to be even slightly spreadable… and we like spreadable butter.
The solution to that dilemma… The Butter Bell

How do you handle the “transition” when it’s getting nearly empty? I have a butter bell, but it stopped getting use because it would be almost empty and we would need more butter than was currently in it, and then there was no “smooth” way to handle getting it emptied and cleaned and refilled. Do you keep two?
I do actually have two because they are rather small and we have a rather large family. I never thought about the issue of having one and no opportunities to clean it at and add fresh butter. That naturally happens with two becuase as one gets down to the bottom, we just add what’s left to the full one and clean and refill the empty one. So, two is a great idea for that reason… and if you have a herd of butter loving children.
I have a friend who swears by this thing. I think I’ll have to find one for myself, as I can’t stand it when butter is rock hard! And I always seem to discover this after the toast pops up, LOL!
I love this idea! I hate when butter is too solid to spread! I’ll be looking for one of these! Or maybe two!
I just bought one of these for my MIL’s birthday hoping it would work for her – she loves her butter spreadable but had just been keeping it in the cupboard. Nice to hear good results from someone who is actually using it – might have to get one for myself now too!
